Armenia Ratifies Regulation on Joint Border Delimitation Activities with Azerbaijan

During a recent parliamentary session, Armenia's National Assembly ratified the Regulation governing the joint activities of the commissions responsible for delimiting the state border with Azerbaijan.

The ratification of the Regulation, which outlines the collaborative efforts of the border delimitation commissions from both Armenia and Azerbaijan, was passed with 67 votes in favor. Notably, two opposition factions, “I Have Honor” and “Armenia,” abstained from participating in the discussion and voting process.

Currently, the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan remains undelineated. In 2022, both nations established border delimitation commissions led by their respective Deputy Prime Ministers.

The eighth meeting of these border delimitation commissions took place on April 19, 2024, resulting in the installation of the first border pillar on April 23, as per the agreements reached during the meeting.

On August 30, Armenia and Azerbaijan signed the Regulation concerning the joint activities of their border delimitation commissions. Following this, on September 5, the Armenian government approved the draft law for ratifying the Regulation and forwarded it to the Constitutional Court.

On September 26, the Constitutional Court of Armenia deemed the draft Regulation regarding the border delimitation commissions consistent with the Armenian Constitution.

The newly ratified Regulation outlines the organization of delimitation efforts, the roles of expert groups, and the procedures for adopting relevant documents, including protocols and maps detailing the border.
