Azerbaijan Issues Sentences for Citizens Spying for Armenia

The Baku Court of Grave Crimes has announced sentences for Azerbaijani citizens convicted of collaborating with Armenian special services.

Rashad Akhmedov was found guilty of carrying out tasks for Armenian intelligence in exchange for financial gain, undermining the sovereignty and security of Azerbaijan. Along with Rovshan Amirov and others, he created and distributed videos that promoted ethnic and religious hatred via YouTube and other social media platforms.

Akhmedov was sentenced to 18 years in prison under multiple charges, including high treason and terrorism. Amirov was sentenced to 17 years for similar offenses.

In a related case, the Armenian Investigative Committee recently completed an investigation into Sarkis Galstyan, who is accused of espionage. Galstyan allegedly passed sensitive information about Karabakh’s population and conditions to foreign intelligence from 2020 to 2023. He was arrested in March 2023 and is currently facing charges of espionage.
