Foreign Ministers of Kyrgyzstan and Pakistan Meet in Astana
On May 20, in Astana, the Foreign Ministers of Kyrgyzstan and Pakistan met as part of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the SCO member countries. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan, Jeenbek Kulubaev, and Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Muhammad Ishaq Dar, attended the meeting.
According to the press service of Kyrgyzstan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the two ministers discussed ways to enhance cooperation in various fields, including trade, investment, textiles, tourism, education, and healthcare. They focused on strengthening economic diplomacy and cultural and humanitarian ties, as well as organizing high-level visits between the two countries.
The ministers highlighted the importance of the Intergovernmental Kyrgyz-Pakistan Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation, and discussed their cooperation on the subregional energy project “CASA-1000.”
At the end of the meeting, both parties agreed to work on increasing mutual visits and strengthening business ties between Kyrgyzstan and Pakistan. They also planned to hold future consultations between their foreign ministries on political, consular, and legal issues.
Earlier, on May 19, a meeting took place between Kyrgyzstan’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Avazbek Atakhanov, and the Ambassador of Pakistan to Kyrgyzstan, Hassan Ali Zaigam. They discussed an incident involving foreign students in Bishkek and agreed to arrange a meeting between the foreign ministers of Kyrgyzstan and Pakistan during the SCO Council of Foreign Ministers in Astana.
