Kazakhstan Evacuates Over 117,000 People Since Beginning of Floods

A senior official from Kazakhstan's Ministry of Emergency Situations, Erasyl Saipash, has revealed that the number of evacuees has surpassed 117,000 amid ongoing floods across the nation.

The situation remains intense and stable, with emergency rescue operations and flood management efforts continuing in flood-prone areas. Approximately 18,651 individuals have been able to return home safely due to effective anti-flood measures. Since the onset of the flooding, a total of 117,694 people, including 43,931 children, have been rescued and evacuated. Additionally, 113,852 farm animals have been moved to safety.

Currently, 6,887 individuals are housed in evacuation centers. Significant efforts have been made to divert water from 4,216 residential buildings and 2,698 courtyards. More than 10.1 million cubic meters of meltwater have been pumped out, along with the placement of over 3.2 million bags and 1.4 million tons of inert material.

“Erasyl Saipash also highlighted that 5,718 private residential buildings and 1,130 courtyard areas in Akmola, Aktobe, Kostanay, Atyrau, and North Kazakhstan regions remain flooded. Psychologists from the Center for Disaster Medicine of the Ministry of Emergency Situations are providing continuous support to residents, with the hotline receiving 1,932 calls. Furthermore, a significant deployment of resources is underway, with 44,156 people, 4,611 pieces of equipment, 860 water pumping devices, 332 watercraft, and 18 aircraft actively participating in emergency rescue and flood control efforts, alongside volunteers.”

The Ministry of Emergency Situations emphasizes the importance of adhering to safety measures during this period, urging citizens not to leave their homes or evacuation centers without permission and to ensure children are supervised at all times.
