Flood Control Efforts Intensify Across Kazakhstan’s Regions
As the flood season unfolds in regions including Turkestan, Aktobe, Kostanay, West Kazakhstan, Akmola, Ulytau, and Abay, the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Kazakhstan reports ongoing evacuation efforts.
A total of 4,694 individuals, including 1,682 children, have been evacuated since the onset of flooding. Notably, 447 people, including 180 children, were airlifted to safety.
Emergency response teams, comprising 6,349 personnel and 2,192 units of equipment, alongside 689 water pumping devices and 55 aquatic rescue units, are actively engaged in flood relief operations. Additionally, 12 aircraft from various government agencies, including the Ministry of Defense and Ministry of Internal Affairs, are supporting rescue efforts.
Over 2.3 million cubic meters of meltwater have been pumped out, with authorities deploying more than 162,000 sandbags and 31,587 tons of inert material to fortify vulnerable areas.
A hotline established to facilitate communication has received 392 calls, while operational headquarters are operational at both national and regional levels across 12 regions.
In the aftermath of the floods, 435 private residences and 329 courtyards across seven regions, as well as 75 country homes and nine structures in Aktobe, remain submerged. In addition, flooding has affected infrastructure including 12 courtyard areas of multi-story residential buildings, a kindergarten, and a railway hospital in Akmola.
Moreover, 18 road erosions, encompassing four bridges and 14 road surfaces, are being monitored closely, with 26 settlements currently cut off from transportation links.
