Kazakhstan Announces Extensive Military Exercises with Türkiye and CSTO Allies in 2024

Kazakhstan's evolving military concepts reflected in diverse joint drills.

Kazakhstan is set to engage in joint military exercises with Türkiye and CSTO (Collective Security Treaty Organization) countries, according to reports from the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The exercises, scheduled for 2024, were outlined in response to an official inquiry from the Kazinform agency.

The Ministry of Defense has detailed the following exercises for the upcoming year:

  • Joint exercise with the Turkish Armed Forces “Kabylan Zholy-2024.”
  • Command post exercise “Birlestik-2024” involving units from the armed forces of Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan,
  • Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan.
  • Complex exercise “Becket – 2024.”
  • Operational-tactical air defense command and staff exercise “Ashyk Aspan-2024.”
  • Joint naval exercise of the Caspian states (Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Russia).
  • Operational-tactical command and staff exercise “Aibalta-2024.”
  • Operational-tactical command and staff exercise “Toskauyl-2024.”

The Ministry emphasized that the distinguishing feature of these exercises compared to previous years is the changing concept, adapting annually to the geopolitical situation, and the region’s global context.

Furthermore, Kazakhstan is planning a joint exercise with CSTO peacekeeping forces, titled “Indestructible Brotherhood-2024,” on its territory in September-October 2024. Additionally, there are bilateral plans for joint exercises with the armed forces of Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.
