A grand ceremony marked the unveiling of a monument dedicated to the first President of Türkiye, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, in Almaty.

Erected by the city akimat (Municipal) in a park named in honor of Ataturk in 2023, the monument was revealed during the opening ceremony attended by dignitaries, as reported by the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Present at the event were Minister of Culture and Information Aida Balaeva, Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye to Kazakhstan Mustafa Kapucu, Secretary General of TURKSOY Sultan Raev, Mayor of Almaty Erbolat Dosayev, Turkish diaspora representatives, and members of the creative intelligentsia.

The decision to install the monument was initiated by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev during the visit of Recep Tayyip Erdogan to Kazakhstan, commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Turkish Republic.

Minister Balaeva highlighted the dynamic development of relations between Kazakhstan and Türkiye in all areas, emphasizing the role of cultural ties as a bridge of cooperation. The monument, standing at 3 meters, crafted from bronze with a granite pedestal, symbolizes not only respect for Türkiye’s historical heritage but also signifies the partnership and cooperation between the two nations. The sculptors behind this tribute are Kazakh artists Aidos Burkitbaev and Timur Ermukhametov.
