World Chess Championship starts in Astana

Today, April 7, the world chess championship starts in the capital of Kazakhstan. Russian Ian Nepomniachtchi and Ding Liren from China will compete for the title of best of bests.

Recall that earlier on October 31 last year, the current 16th world champion Magnus Carlsen refused to defend his title of world champion in classical chess. These athletes occupy the second and third lines in the world ranking of the International Chess Federation (FIDE). Regardless of the outcome, this match will determine the name of the new 17th owner of the chess crown.

A number of eminent guests are expected to arrive, including FIDE President Arkady Dvorkovich, 14th world chess champion Vladimir Kramnik, 15th world chess champion Vishy Anand, four-time women’s world chess champion Hou Yifan, and grandmasters Daniil Dubov , Viorel Bologan, women’s grandmaster, former Minister of Economy and Minister of Finance of Latvia Dana Reizniece-Ozola.
