When Does Ramadan Start This Year?

This was announced by Grand Mufti Nauryzbai qaji Taganuly at a press conference ahead of the holy month of Ramadan.

The Sharia and Fatwa Department of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Kazakhstan (SAMK) has approved and published the religious calendar for this year. According to it, fasting will begin on March 1.

— We have made a collective decision, taking into account the recommendations of the Fatwa Council under the Muftis’ Board of the Organization of Turkic States, as well as scientific research. God willing, this year Ramadan will begin on March 1. The Night of Decree (Laylat al-Qadr) will be observed on the night of March 26 to 27. Eid al-Fitr will be celebrated on March 30. This year, the fasting period will last for 29 days, — said Nauryzbai qaji Taganuly.
