Ahead of the religious holiday of Ramadan Eid, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a decree pardoning 426 individuals serving sentences, all of whom have shown sincere remorse for their actions and displayed a firm commitment to reform, as reported by the Uzbekistan presidential press service.
“In accordance with paragraph 23 of Article 109 of the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the decree pardons 426 individuals convicted of crimes who have sincerely repented and firmly embarked on the path of rehabilitation,” the statement reads.
Among those granted clemency, 135 individuals were fully released from their main sentences, 200 were released on parole, and the penalties imposed on 26 individuals were mitigated. Furthermore, the prison terms of 65 individuals were reduced.
The pardoned individuals comprise a diverse group, including 11 foreigners, 50 women, 13 men over the age of 60, 157 individuals under the age of 30 (including 3 minors), and 5 individuals involved in activities associated with prohibited organizations.
