Uzbekistan’s Muslim Authority: ChatGPT Cannot Provide Reliable Religious Answers

The Fatwa Center under the Muslim Board of Uzbekistan has issued a statement warning that artificial intelligence systems, including ChatGPT, are not capable of delivering accurate or complete answers to religious questions.

The center urged believers to consult qualified scholars for issues related to Islamic law.

“While ChatGPT may be helpful in some fields, it is not fit to answer religious inquiries. It is a man-made product and responds by referencing certain texts, but often these references are imprecise or not found in official religious sources,” the statement reads.

The Center emphasized the importance of seeking knowledge from trained experts and highlighted the limitations of AI in addressing complex and sensitive topics like theology and Sharia law.
