Uzbekistan’s Car Imports Dominated by China

Uzbekistan's automotive market is heavily reliant on imports, with a significant portion of vehicles coming from China. Last year, the country imported 74,700 passenger cars worth $1.28 billion, according to recent reports.

China emerged as the largest supplier, accounting for a staggering 80% of Uzbekistan’s total car imports. This dominance highlights the growing influence of Chinese automakers in the Central Asian nation.

Following China, other key players in Uzbekistan’s car import market include South Korea, the United States, India, and Japan. However, their import volumes are significantly lower compared to China.

The surge in car imports reflects Uzbekistan’s growing demand for vehicles. The country’s developing economy and rising middle class have contributed to increased purchasing power and a greater desire for personal transportation.

In addition to passenger cars, Uzbekistan also imports commercial vehicles and other types of transportation equipment. Last October, Kazakhstan purchased 20 freight cars from Uzbekistan’s “Foundry and Mechanical Plant,” demonstrating the country’s role as a regional supplier of transportation infrastructure.
