Uzbekistan to launch electric cars production
Shavkat Mirziyoyev instructed to establish the production of popular models of electric vehicles and expand the service infrastructure in the next two years, the press service of the President of Uzbekistan reports.
President of Uzbekistan, while familiarizing himself with projects for the development of the electric car industry, emphasized the need to create a joint venture with a foreign company with experience in organizing the production of popular models.
“Electric vehicles are rapidly becoming part of our daily lives and the imports of them are growing day by day. Why? Because there is a demand. The costs associated with the operation of such cars are less and the service costs are much cheaper. But most importantly, our people prefer them. Therefore, we need to provide the population with affordable, low-cost, modern electric vehicles,” said Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
Electric vehicles require an appropriate infrastructure. Now there are only 50 charging stations in the country, they are located mainly in Tashkent and Samarkand but there are no service centers for electric vehicles.
The task was set to install 2,000 charging stations in parking lots, fuel stations and highways in the next two years. These stations will benefit from land tax, property and profit tax reliefs. Entrepreneurs who own charging stations will be given the right to sell electricity at a free price.
“We must think not just today or tomorrow but also decades ahead. Therefore, taking into account the environmental agenda and for the sake of the future, we need to develop this industry now. The sooner we do this, the more competition will appear in the car market,” said Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
