Uzbekistan to Join International Nuclear Safety Agreements

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has signed a decree aimed at enhancing state oversight in industrial, radiation, and nuclear safety sectors.

According to Kazinform, the decree outlines steps for Uzbekistan to prepare for accession to several key international nuclear safety agreements.

The document specifies a list of treaties Uzbekistan intends to join, including:

  • The Vienna Convention on Civil Liability for Nuclear Damage,
  • The Convention on Assistance in the Case of a Nuclear Accident or Radiological Emergency,
  • The Convention on Early Notification of a Nuclear Accident, and
  • The Convention on Nuclear Safety.

This move reflects Uzbekistan’s commitment to aligning with global standards in nuclear safety and security.

Previously, it was reported that Uzbekistan and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) are planning to expand cooperation in the field of nuclear energy development.
