Uzbekistan to host session of UNWTO General Assembly in October

The 25th session of the General Assembly of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) will be held in Samarkand

On March 29, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev chaired a videoconference on increasing the tourism potential of the country, Turanews.kz reports.

Mirziyoyeva stressed that this year should be the year of promoting the rich cultural and tourism potential of Uzbekistan abroad.

“This year, our country will host a session of the General Assembly of the World Tourism Organization. Samarkand will become the capital of world tourism in 2023. This year should be the year of promoting the rich cultural and tourism potential of our country abroad,” Mirziyoyev said during the meeting.

Mirziyoyev stated that for this purpose, 100 billion Uzbek soums ( nearly $9 mln) have been allocated to attract tourists through marketing and advertising. The President also noted the importance of developing the “Visit Card of Uzbekistan”, updating the tourism brand, increasing advertising about Uzbekistan on international TV channels and Internet sites.

The decision to hold the 25th session of the General Assembly of the UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) in Samarkand in 2023 was made at the previous session in December 2021 in Madrid.

There are more than 8,000 cultural heritage sites and 122 museums across Uzbekistan.
