Uzbekistan To Hold Referendum On New Constitution on April 30

The Legislative Assembly, the lower house of the Uzbek Parliament, decided to hold a constitutional amendment referendum on April 30.

The referendum on amending the Constitution of Uzbekistan will be held on April 30, Turanews.kz reports citing Gazeta.uz

The relevant draft decision was considered and adopted by the deputies at the plenary session of the Legislative Chamber on March 10.

During the voting process, 134 deputies supported the decision to hold a referendum, 2 abstained, and 1 did not vote.

Recall that a little while ago, the deputies adopted a new version of the law “On the Constitution of Uzbekistan”.

The number of substances is increasing from 128 to 155, and the number of norms is increasing from 275 to 434. The text of the Constitution has been updated by 65%, therefore the name of the document has been changed from “Amendments and additions to the Constitution” to “Constitution in the new version”.

132 out of 137 deputies voted for the draft law, 2 abstained, and 3 did not vote.

The previous national referendum was held on January 27, 2002.
