Uzbekistan to Exempt Tourist Transport from Customs Duties

In Uzbekistan, buses and minibuses imported by entrepreneurs in the tourism industry will now be exempt from customs duties.

According to Uzbek media, citing the Ministry of Justice of Uzbekistan, this exemption is part of new measures under a presidential decree aimed at enhancing tourism infrastructure and increasing the number of foreign tourists visiting Uzbekistan.

The decree, titled “On Additional Measures to Improve Tourism Infrastructure and Further Increase the Flow of Foreign Tourists to the Republic of Uzbekistan,” includes several key provisions. Notably, until August 1, 2025, tour operators registered and licensed in the Republic of Karakalpakstan can import off-road vehicles with an engine capacity of at least 2.4 liters for extreme tours. These operators will be allowed to pay customs duties and a recycling fee at 25 percent of the current rate, with the option to pay in installments over three years.

Additionally, the decree encourages participation in international tourism fairs and exhibitions. Entrepreneurs in the tourism sector, as well as artisans and cultural and artistic figures from Uzbekistan, are expected to take part in these events. Tour operators that have been in operation for less than three years will be reimbursed for 50 percent of the cost of renting pavilions at these events. Similarly, artisans will receive a 50 percent reimbursement for expenses related to renting pavilions, transporting products, and airfare for international exhibitions.
