Uzbekistan Tightens Control Over Weddings and Ceremonial Events

Uzbekistan is introducing stricter regulations on weddings and family gatherings that involve excessive spending and customs not aligned with national traditions.

According to a Cabinet of Ministers, such events will now be monitored under the “Save Food” program, reports UzA.

The government has declared 2026–2030 as the “Period of Food Security,” during which efforts will focus on reducing waste and ensuring the population has access to sufficient and quality food supplies.

Under the new rules, which build on regulations established in 2019:

  • family gatherings are limited to 200 guests;
  • funeral receptions – up to 250 guests;
  • joint weddings and traditional collective events – up to 250–300 guests.

Celebrations or performances that conflict with national traditions or demand excessive time and money will be strictly prohibited.
