Uzbekistan Takes Stride Towards Environmental Accountability with National Emissions Registry

Uzbekistan has committed to establishing a national register for accounting emissions, marking a crucial step in the country’s efforts to address climate change. The Ministry of Ecology of Uzbekistan and the Industrial Innovation Group formalized this commitment by signing a memorandum during the 28th UN Climate Change Conference in Dubai, TuraNews.kz reports.

According to information from the Ministry of Environment of Uzbekistan, this memorandum aligns with the national strategy aimed at reducing emissions. Minister of Environment Aziz Abdukhakimov highlighted the effectiveness of creating such a register, emphasizing its role in integrating the regulation of existing emissions and incentivizing projects to mitigate them.

During discussions, Aziz Abdukhakimov expressed the belief that the creation of the National Emissions Registry is a practical approach to tackling climate change. He stressed the importance of combining a regulatory framework for emissions with motivational structures supporting emission reduction initiatives.

Matar Taryam, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Industrial Innovation Group, expressed the organization’s honor and pride in contributing to the establishment of the National Emissions Registry of Uzbekistan. Taryam underscored that this collaboration reflects Uzbekistan’s dedication to sustainable development and mitigating environmental risks, especially considering the current global climate challenges.

The Ministry of Environment highlighted the role of the registry as a comprehensive platform for organizations to regularly monitor their emissions. Additionally, it will facilitate accurate assessments of carbon sequestration projects. This collaborative emissions inventory is seen as a robust method for precisely gauging the national environmental footprint and setting a foundation for future carbon capture initiatives.

The Industrial Innovation Group, a transnational conglomerate headquartered in the UAE with over 30 years of experience, played a pivotal role in this initiative. Known for its expertise in creating sophisticated, high-tech systems and designing large-scale industrial complexes, the group’s involvement signifies a collaborative effort towards achieving environmental sustainability.

This commitment to environmental responsibility follows Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s proposal at the UN Climate Change Conference to establish an International Expo-Hub of Climate Technologies in the Aral Sea region. Uzbekistan’s proactive initiatives signal a determined approach to addressing climate change on both national and international fronts.
