Uzbekistan-Tajikistan Alliance Agreement Enters into Force

On March 31, in the city of Khujand, the foreign ministers of Uzbekistan and Tajikistan signed a document ratifying the allied relations between the two countries.

The signing ceremony took place during the first summit of the leaders of Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan. Thus, the agreement, which had been approved at the presidential level a year ago, has now officially come into force.

During the visit, Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Tajik President Emomali Rahmon held a private meeting, where they discussed opportunities to further strengthen bilateral ties. According to reports, trade between Tashkent and Dushanbe reached $700 million last year.

Additionally, the leaders reviewed preparations for the upcoming “Central Asia – European Union” summit in Uzbekistan, as well as the seventh Consultative Meeting of Central Asian Heads of State.

Moreover, the presidents of Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan signed an agreement on the convergence point of their national borders and attended the inauguration of the “Arrow of Friendship” monument.
