Uzbekistan switches to emergency mode of operation

Uzbekistan’s energy industry is switching to an emergency mode of operation to ensure the stable supply of energy to consumers in the autumn-winter period. This was announced by President of Uzbekistan on Friday  Turanews.kz reports.

Mirziyoyev gave a number of instructions to the leaders of the energy complex and khokims (regional governors) to ensure the sustainable functioning of the energy system.

In the second half of the year, Uzbekistan is to produce 30 billion cubic meters of gas and 41 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity, and ensure their uninterrupted supply to consumers. Gas reserves in underground gas storage facilities are to be increased to at least 3.5 billion cubic meters.

The repair of 1.1 thousand kilometers of networks and 402 transformers is to be completed by October 1. In the autumn-winter period, the population and social facilities are to be provided with an uninterrupted supply of 335 thousand tons of liquefied gas. By the end of the year, Uzbekistan is to produce 400 thousand tons of gasoline and import 120 thousand tons.

Mirziyoyev instructed the leadership of the energy complex, together with the governors of the regions and heads of industries, to take measures to save 3.7 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity and 2.4 billion cubic meters of gas by the end of the year. The importance of installing another 250 megawatt solar panels at social facilities and government institutions was emphasized.

“Responsible leaders will switch to an emergency mode of operation from today to ensure the stable operation of the energy system in the autumn-winter period,” Mirziyoyev emphasized.

The President’s instructions come after last winter, when part of the residents of the city of Tashkent were left without gas and electricity due to abnormal frost. The consequences of the energy collapse were felt throughout Uzbekistan.

The government is taking steps to prevent a repeat of last winter’s energy crisis. The emergency mode of operation will allow the energy industry to work more efficiently and ensure the uninterrupted supply of energy to consumers.
