According to the national statistics department, this level of import has not been seen in the annual figures for the past eight years.
The increase in gas imports began when Uzbekistan ramped up its purchases of natural gas from Russia. It was anticipated that this year, the volume of gas imports from abroad could reach record levels.
For comparison, in 2023, Uzbekistan imported gas worth $694.9 million, which was also higher than in previous years.
