Uzbekistan recognizes Esports as an official sport

Uzbekistan takes steps for further development and popularization of e-sports

With the document which is signed by Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the esports as will be recognized as an official and separate sport discipline in Uzbekistan.

The Uzbek goverment stated that a particular attention will be paid to the training of professional eSportsmen and coaches, qualified judges and commentators. The Uzbek State University of Physical Culture and Sports, starting from the 2023/2024 academic year, will open the section for  “Sports activities: Esports”.

The ministries of sports development, development of information technologies and communications, as well as the Agency for Youth Affairs, were instructed to take responsibility for the development of esports.

Esports is a rapidly developing industry in the world, which has gained popularity in many countries. In 2017, the International Olympic Committee took into consideration the issue of recognizing eSports as an Olympic sport.

The Uzbekistan, with a population of more than 35 million, 60 percent of which are under the age of 30, will also hold domestic and international esports championships and tournaments, the document said.
