Uzbekistan Proposes Establishing a Central Asian Community

Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has called for elevating the Consultative Meeting of Central Asian Heads of State to a strategic-level platform. Speaking as the chair of the summit, he outlined several initiatives aimed at strengthening regional cooperation.

Mirziyoyev emphasized that the time has come to transform the current dialogue mechanism into a more structured and influential entity – a Central Asian Community. He proposed drafting a formal regulation outlining the institutional and organizational framework of the consultative meetings, including the establishment of a rotating secretariat.

He also suggested upgrading the status of national coordinators, turning them into special envoys of their respective presidents to enhance coordination and continuity.

Another notable proposal was the creation of an Elders’ Council comprised of respected public figures with extensive experience. According to Mirziyoyev, such a body would help deepen intergenerational dialogue, strengthen shared values and support broader regional cohesion.
