Uzbekistan President Grants Clemency to 392 Prisoners Ahead of Spring Holidays

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has issued a sweeping pardon for 392 individuals currently serving prison sentences to mark the arrival of Nauryz and the holy month of Ramadan. The decree targets those who have demonstrated genuine remorse and significant progress in their rehabilitation process, as reported by the national news agency UzA.

Under the constitutional decree, the legal status of the prisoners has been revised through several mechanisms. Specifically, 223 individuals were fully released from their primary sentences, while 82 received conditional early release. For 34 others, prison terms were commuted to milder forms of punishment, and 53 saw their overall sentences reduced.

The group of pardoned citizens is diverse, including 26 women, 14 elderly men over the age of 60, and 166 youths. Additionally, three foreign nationals and 24 individuals formerly associated with banned organizations were included in the act of grace. President Mirziyoyev has directed relevant ministries to provide comprehensive support for the reintegration of these individuals, ensuring they have access to employment and social services as they return to their families.
