Uzbekistan Prepares To Launch Its First National Astronaut

Uzbekistan is moving forward with a national initiative to send its first astronaut into space. The proposed mission envisions a 10 to 14-day flight and the establishment of international partnerships to ensure its successful implementation.

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed initial plans outlining the first steps toward training a national astronaut. The project, launched at the president’s initiative, has been designated as a strategic priority.

According to Mirziyoyev, the mission is more than a symbolic milestone. It represents a significant investment in the country’s scientific capacity, an inspiration for young people, and a source of national pride. Experts believe the project could strengthen Uzbekistan’s global standing and provide fresh momentum for scientific and technological advancement.

Authorities are also considering hosting the International Astronautical Congress in Samarkand in 2028. Leading space agencies from the United States, Europe, China, India and Russia have reportedly expressed interest in the event.

Following the meeting, the president instructed officials to prepare detailed calculations and concrete proposals for implementing the program.
