According to a recent decree issued by President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev on September 24, the country will begin gradually restricting the use and sale of motor fuels that do not meet the Euro-4 standard, including AI-80 gasoline, starting in 2028.
This decision is part of a broader initiative aimed at improving air quality and combating environmental challenges, such as dust storms, that have been impacting the region.
It is worth noting that on December 29, 2023, President Mirziyoyev had instructed Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov to address the phasing out of AI-80 gasoline beginning in 2025. However, the timeline has now been adjusted to allow for a more gradual transition toward cleaner fuel alternatives.
