Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan Open Two New Border Checkpoints

Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan have opened two new border checkpoints: Karasu and Uchkorghan.

The Karasu checkpoint, which connects the Korgontepinskiy district of Andijan Province in Uzbekistan with Kyrgyzstan, was closed 14 years ago. Following negotiations between the two countries, the Karasu checkpoint has resumed operations.

This checkpoint is expected to significantly speed up transportation to the Osh region of Kyrgyzstan, with around 12,000 people anticipated to pass through daily. It will also improve transport links between the cities of Osh and Jalal-Abad.

Additionally, the Uchkorghan checkpoint, located in the Uzbek city of Namangan, has also been put into operation. This checkpoint is expected to enhance trade between Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan.

Since last year, crossing the border between the two countries has been possible with an identity card.
