The Presidents of Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Ilham Aliyev, met in Baku on Wednesday to discuss ways to further expand their strategic partnership, Turanews.kz reports.
The two leaders exchanged views on the intensification of contacts between their countries at all levels, including parliaments, governments, regions, and foreign policy and other departments. They also noted with satisfaction the steady growth in trade between the two countries and the four-fold increase in the number of joint ventures.
The leaders welcomed the successful examples of cooperation between the two countries, such as the assembly of Uzbek cars in Azerbaijan and the establishment of sericulture and textile clusters. They also expressed satisfaction with the results of the business forum held on the eve of the visit, which resulted in a solid portfolio of new cooperation projects and trade contracts.
Mirziyoyev and Aliyev discussed the prospects for deepening industrial cooperation in a number of sectors, including energy, engineering, metallurgy, urban planning, agriculture, mining, textiles, sericulture, pharmaceuticals, and electrical engineering. They also paid particular attention to the development of cooperation in the field of transport and transit, and stressed the need to increase cargo transportation along the Middle Corridor and jointly develop logistics and port infrastructure.
The two presidents also emphasized the importance of developing interregional cooperation and organizing regular meetings of the leaders of the regions of the two countries for the joint development and promotion of new cooperation projects.
The visit of Mirziyoyev to Azerbaijan is a sign of the strong commitment of the two countries to further expanding their strategic partnership. The discussions between the two leaders have laid the foundation for a number of new initiatives in the coming years.
