Uzbekistan and Afghanistan to develop transit cargo corridor

A delegation from Uzbekistan, led by Minister of Transport Ilhom Makhkamov and Special Representative of the President for Afghanistan Ismatulla Ergashev, visited Afghanistan on August 26-27, Turanews.kz reports citing the press service of Mintrans.uz.

During the visit, the delegation met with Mullah Hamidullo Ohunzoda, Acting Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation of Afghanistan, and discussed the development of a transport corridor between the two countries.

The delegation traveled along the Uzbekistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan highway, which is a key route for trade and commerce between the region and the Indian Ocean. They also visited the Salang Pass, a major transit point between northern and southern Afghanistan.

At the bilateral talks, the parties discussed ways to improve the efficiency of the transport corridor, including by reducing transit fees, improving security, and providing more favorable conditions for international road carriers. They also agreed to work together to lift restrictions on transit through Afghanistan and cargo transportation to other destinations.
