Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and his wife, accompanied by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and his wife, visited the city of Shusha, Azerbaijan, on Thursday, Turanews.kz reports citing Uza.uz.
Shusha is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is known as the “pearl of Karabakh”. The city is home to many historical and cultural landmarks, including the Saatly Mosque, the Khan kyzy spring, and the house-museum of Bulbul, a famous Azerbaijani singer.
The Uzbek delegation visited the Saatly Mosque, which was built in 1883. They also toured the photo exhibition “Heydar Aliyev and Karabakh”, which was organized in connection with the centenary of the national leader of Azerbaijan.
The delegation then visited the main city square of Shusha, where there are busts of outstanding cultural figures of Azerbaijan, including Khurshidbanu Natavan, Bulbul, and Uzeyir Hajibeyli.
The Uzbek side also visited the house-museum of Bulbul, the architectural monument “House of the Mehmandarovs”, and the famous plain tract of Dzhydir Duzyu.
The visit to Shusha was part of the state visit of the Uzbek President to Azerbaijan. The delegation also visited the cities of Baku and Ganja.
The visit was aimed at strengthening the bilateral ties between Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan. The two countries have a long history of cooperation and share many cultural and historical ties.
The Uzbek President expressed his admiration for the beauty of Shusha and the rich history of the city. He said that he was impressed by the hospitality of the Azerbaijani people and that he was looking forward to further cooperation between the two countries.
