Uzbek President and German Chancellor Meet with Business Leaders of Both Nations

On September 16, in Samarkand, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz held a joint meeting with representatives from leading companies and banks of the two countries.

The meeting was attended by notable figures, including Parliamentary State Secretary of Germany’s Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Protection Michael Kellner, and Managing Director of the Eastern Committee of German Economy Michael Harms. Key companies such as KNAUF, Siemens Energy, Linde Group, CLAAS, Aurubis, and several German banks, including KfW Development Bank and AKA Bank, were represented.

President Mirziyoyev welcomed the participants, highlighting the significance of the meeting in the historic city of Samarkand. The gathering built upon high-level discussions from the previous day, which focused on Uzbekistan’s plans for economic transformation and modernization, and Germany’s support for these initiatives.

The meeting resulted in agreements aimed at fast-tracking joint investment projects and trade contracts under a new strategic program. Key areas of cooperation include green energy, chemical industry, green hydrogen production, mechanical and electrical engineering, as well as the textile and pharmaceutical sectors.

German businesses were also invited to contribute to the development of mineral resources in Uzbekistan, with a focus on producing high-value products for export. Infrastructure projects, including energy, transport, and communications, as well as privatization efforts, were identified as other potential areas of collaboration.

President Mirziyoyev emphasized the importance of fostering partnerships between German businesses and large Uzbek companies to strengthen economic ties and support Uzbekistan’s development goals.
