Uzbek President Addresses Palestinian-Israeli Conflict at ECO Summit, Urges Peaceful Resolution

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan, speaking at the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) summit, expressed his concern about the ongoing armed conflict in the Middle East, emphasizing its potential to threaten global peace.

Mirziyoyev lamented the tragic toll of the conflict, with a disproportionate impact on civilian populations, particularly women, children, and the elderly. He stressed the increasing likelihood of the conflict’s regional expansion.

The Uzbek President called for urgent measures to prevent a large-scale escalation that could involve both parties and urged an immediate cessation of hostilities, the commencement of peace negotiations, and a reasonable compromise.

He reaffirmed his nation’s unwavering support for the Palestinian people’s right to establish an independent state, a right validated by UN resolutions.

Mirziyoyev underscored the importance of Afghanistan, a historical neighbor of Uzbekistan, and the need for its active participation in regional integration efforts for the sake of sustainable development.

The President called upon the international community to increase humanitarian aid to Afghanistan and develop collective solutions to the country’s pressing socio-economic challenges. He stressed the importance of shared responsibility and workable mechanisms in this regard.
