The United States is expanding its sanctions against Russia to include more companies in its defense industry, energy and financial sectors, and elites, according to a statement from US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and the US Treasury Department, Turanews.kz reports.
The move is aimed at further isolating Russia and its economy in response to its invasion of Ukraine.
The new sanctions target more than 150 individuals and entities, including:
- Companies in Russia’s defense industry, such as United Aircraft Corporation and Uralvagonzavod
- Companies in Russia’s energy sector, such as Transneft and Gazprom Neft
- Financial institutions, such as Sberbank and VTB Bank
- Elites, including family members of Russian President Vladimir Putin
The sanctions will freeze the assets of targeted individuals and entities and prohibit US citizens and businesses from doing business with them.
