UN launches multi-country Global Compact network for Central Asia in Almaty
A multi-country network of the UN Global Compact for Central Asia was officially launched at the "UN Plaza" in Almaty.

The event was attended by Janibek Abdrashov, Ambassador-at-Large of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan and Head of the MFA Representative Office in Almaty, who delivered a keynote address. Also present were Ole Lund Hansen, Head of Global Operations for the UN Global Compact, and Stephen O’Malley, Acting UN Resident Coordinator in Kazakhstan.
In his remarks, Abdrashov emphasized that the launch of the network brings together the efforts of governments, business communities, and civil society to advance key priorities such as human rights protection, environmental sustainability, and anti-corruption efforts.
Participants also highlighted the potential partnership between the UN Regional Centre for Sustainable Development Goals for Central Asia and Afghanistan, based in Almaty, and the UN Global Compact.
Concluding his speech, the ambassador expressed confidence that the Government of Kazakhstan would provide full support for the new network’s efforts toward a sustainable future for the region.
