UN: Children of Gaza Slowly Perishing Amidst Humanitarian Crisis
The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) has issued a distressing report, highlighting the dire situation faced by children in the Gaza Strip. According to UNRWA, infants and children in Gaza are "slowly dying before the world's eyes" as humanitarian aid struggles to reach the region amidst Israeli attacks.
The agency’s social media platforms have been inundated with messages recounting the tragic deaths of infants and children as a result of Israeli assaults. Since October 7, approximately 17,000 children in Gaza have been orphaned, while one in six children under the age of two in northern Gaza suffers from severe malnutrition.
The report emphasizes that these deaths are preventable, attributing them to the relentless bombing and the hardships imposed by the Israeli blockade. The inability to access essential aid exacerbates the crisis, leaving vulnerable children without vital resources.
Ashraf al-Qudra, spokesman for the Palestinian Health Ministry in Gaza, confirmed on March 3 that 15 children had succumbed to starvation in the northern Gaza Strip and Gaza City. He warned that six more children are at risk of starvation at any moment due to Israeli obstruction hindering the delivery of humanitarian assistance.
Since October 7, Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip have resulted in the deaths of 30,631 Palestinians, including at least 13,430 children and 8,900 women. Additionally, 72,43,043 Palestinians have been injured, underscoring the urgent need for international intervention to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
