TURKSOY Unveils New Book Exploring Historical Repressions Across the Turkic World

The headquarters of TURKSOY in Ankara recently hosted a high-profile symposium and book launch titled “Repressions in the Turkic World.” The event was dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the historic 1st Turkological Congress held in Baku in 1926.

The collaborative effort by TURKSOY, the Ahmed Javad Institute, and Ankara Hacı Bayram Veli University brought together diplomats, historians, and experts to reflect on a painful yet crucial chapter of shared history.

TURKSOY Secretary General Sultan Raev highlighted the immense significance of the 1926 Baku Congress in bringing Turkic peoples closer together, while also mourning the tragic end of many participants who were later persecuted or executed.

The newly launched book is a compilation of research papers from a 2025 scientific seminar. It aims to revive the collective memory of the Turkic world and serve as a scholarly foundation for justice and cultural solidarity among member states.
