TURKSOY Hosts Presentation of the Book “Literature of Turkic Peoples”

The headquarters of TURKSOY in Ankara hosted the presentation of the book “Literature of Turkic Peoples” by Azerbaijani scholar Professor Elman Guliyev. The event brought together TURKSOY Secretary General Sultan Raev, academics, writers, diplomats and guests from various Turkic countries.

Based on decades of research, the book offers a systematic overview of the shared literary heritage of Turkic-speaking nations. It traces the development of Turkic literature from the Orkhon inscriptions through Anatolia, Azerbaijan, Turkestan, the Caucasus and the Volga–Ural region, while comparing the works of Yunus Emre, Fuzuli, Nizami, Alisher Navoi, Abai and Chingiz Aitmatov.

In his remarks, Sultan Raev emphasized the importance of the publication for understanding the cultural links among Turkic peoples. Professor Şükrü Haluk Akalın noted that the release of the book coincides with UNESCO’s newly recognized “Turkic Languages Family Day” and preparations for the centenary of the First Turkology Congress, to be held in Baku in 2026.

A panel discussion followed the presentation, featuring assessments from academics and cultural experts. At the end of the event, Professor Guliyev received the TURKSOY Medal for his contribution to Turkic culture.
