During the meeting an agreement was reached and a contract was signed to supply Uzbekistan with an additional 20 million cubic meters of gas per day – 1.5 billion cubic meters in three months, Rhythm of Asia reports.
Last week, the Uzbek authorities decided to step up the import of gas, electricity, coal and fuel oil due to a shortage of energy resources against the background of the cold weather in the country. Later, Behzot Narmatov, Chairman of the Board of Uztransgaz JSC, said that Uzbekistan had completely stopped exporting gas due to the growth of domestic consumption.
The volume of gas delivered to Uzbekistan is planned to be 1.5 billion cubic meters in 3 months and in this way, the gas problem that occurred in the country during the winter will be able be completely solved. Earlier, it was reported that Uzbekistan has increased the daily volume of electricity import from Turkmenistan.
In particular, the daily electricity import practice was increased from 17-18 million kWh to 20-21 million kWh. Sardar Umurzakov also held an emergency meeting regarding the situation in the energy sector.
At the meeting, as a way out of the gas crisis, it was ordered to supply the population with at least 5 million cubic meters of commodity gas per day.
