Cotton sowing in Turkmenistan in 2023 will be carried out on an area of 580 thousand hectares, from which it is planned to collect 1 million 250 thousand tons of raw material – as in the previous few years. The Ministry of Agriculture will also purchase new agricultural machinery and equipment in addition to the existing ones for full-fledged work in the fields this year, Turanews.kz reports citing Orient
The decree on cotton production in 2023 was signed by President Serdar Berdimuhamedov on Thursday, during a visiting government meeting in Mary. The document prescribes the Ministry of Agriculture and all five regional administrations to ensure the production of specified volumes of cotton, organizing the proper work of all links of this sector of the agro-industrial complex.
The decree of the head of state obliges responsible departments to distribute seeds of various cotton varieties according to the principle of soil and climatic zoning, to provide technical services for the preparation and conduct of sowing, cultivation and harvesting of cotton, providing farmers with irrigation water and fertilizers.
Cotton sowing starts in the country at the end of March. Since 2020, Turkmenistan has increased the state order for cotton production, betting on its complete processing inside and expansion of textile production.
