Turkmenistan pardons over 1,000 convicts on Independence Day
On the occasion of the 32nd anniversary of independence, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov has pardoned 1,180 convicts, Turkmen media reported.
The decree was signed at an expanded meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers with the participation of members of the State Security Council.
Berdimuhamedov instructed the heads of law enforcement agencies to carry out the necessary work so that those pardoned would be released from prison and soon find themselves with their families. He also instructed the hyakims of velayats, etraps, and cities to take the necessary measures to provide employment to those pardoned.
Independence Day in Turkmenistan is celebrated on September 27.
