Inaugurating the session, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, Chairman of Turkmenistan’s People’s Council (Halk Maslakhaty), highlighted the plans of the OTS countries to host a series of national and international events aimed at fostering cultural and humanitarian exchange, in collaboration with partner states and international bodies. Berdimuhamedov also noted that the International Organization of Turkic Culture (TURKSOY) has designated 2024 as the “Year of the great poet and thinker of the Turkic world, Magtymguly Fragi.”
In light of this, the Chairman underscored the significance of the current meeting in promoting the work of Magtymguly Fragi globally and strengthening the bonds of friendship and brotherhood among Turkic peoples.
Expressing gratitude, Berdimuhamedov thanked Binali Yildirym, Chairman of the Council of Elders of the OTS, Kubanychbek Omuraliev, Secretary General of the Organization of Turkic States, and all council members for their diligent preparations and coordinated efforts.
During the session, participants lauded the OTS’s role in addressing contemporary challenges within the organization’s framework. They commended Turkmenistan’s contributions to enhancing partnership among OTS member countries, noting its substantial efforts in ensuring global economic stability and energy security, owing to its vast natural resources, including the world’s fourth-largest natural gas reserves.
Berdimuhamedov proposed the establishment of the title “Honorary Elder” of the Organization of Turkic States, along with a corresponding insignia, to recognize the contributions of the elder generation in strengthening friendship and brotherhood within the OTS. He also suggested the creation of an editorial office to widely disseminate the Council of Elders’ activities globally, potentially through the publication of a newspaper, magazine, or website.
Subsequently, a ceremonial banquet was hosted for the delegation heads and guests in attendance at the Council of Elders of the Organization of Turkic States’ forthcoming meeting.
The OTS’s Council of Elders serves as an advisory body comprising distinguished public figures from member countries of the organization.
