Today, April 30, Turkmenistan is celebrating the Day of the Akhal-Teke Horse. Festive events in the country has already started several days ago, Turanews.kz reports.
Poets, writers, masters of art went on a tour to the places where monuments were erected to the “heavenly” horses.
Akhal-Teke horses are the national treasure of the country, where horses are especially honored and loved. The history of Akhal-Teke horses, often referred to as “royal horses”, originates in the mists of time. This breed is considered the oldest of the cultural breeds of horses. From the 7th-6th centuries BC, ancient historians and poets mention the unsurpassed beauty of Central Asian horses.
Also on this day, meetings of the International Association of Akhal-Teke Horse Breeding, exhibitions-fairs and international scientific conferences are traditionally held. And on the day of the holiday, in addition to races, exhibitions and a competition for the title of champion of the breed among horses, show jumping competitions, performances of horse riders, performances with the participation of horses and other equestrian tournaments are also held.
The holiday of the Akhal-Teke horse was established in 1992 and is traditionally celebrated on the last Sunday of April.
