Turkmenistan and UN OHCHR Discuss Strengthening Cooperation
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan held a meeting with the Regional Representative of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) for Central Asia, Matilda Bogner, to discuss further collaboration between Turkmenistan and the UN OHCHR.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Akhmet Gurbanov led the talks, focusing on enhancing cooperation in strengthening democratic institutions and ensuring effective implementation of human rights commitments. Turkmenistan emphasized its active partnership with international organizations to achieve these objectives.
The meeting also addressed the activities of the Interdepartmental Commission responsible for ensuring Turkmenistan’s compliance with its international human rights and humanitarian law obligations. Additionally, discussions centered on the ongoing implementation of several national action plans, including those on human rights, gender equality, and children’s rights, spanning from 2021 to 2028.
Participants highlighted the results of dialogues within key UN committees, such as the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women and the Committee on the Rights of the Child. They expressed mutual interest in expanding cooperation on human rights education and implementing recommendations from these dialogues systematically.
