Turkmen President Pardons 356 Inmates

Turkmenistan's President Serdar Berdimuhamedov issued a decree pardoning 356 convicted citizens in honor of the sacred Night of Omnipotence (Gadyr gijesi), as announced in the Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper on Saturday.

The decree grants pardoned individuals exemption from further imprisonment.

President Berdimuhamedov instructed law enforcement heads to facilitate the convicts’ release and reunite them with their families promptly.

Local authorities have been tasked with providing employment opportunities for those granted clemency.

The Night of Omnipotence, observed during the Muslim month of Ramadan, holds special significance. This year, Turkmenistan will commemorate it on the night of April 6th.

Pardon actions have been a practice in Turkmenistan since 1999, occurring 3-4 times annually to coincide with major public holidays.
