Turkish salmon exports in 2022 have exceeded $363 million, marking a substantial 168 percent increase compared to the previous year, TuraNews.kz reports.
According to data from the Union of Exporters of the Eastern Black Sea Region of Türkiye (DKİB), the Black Sea salmon cultivated in Türkiye reached the shelves of 37 countries worldwide in the past year.
Foreign shipments of Turkish salmon in 2022 totaled 49,214 tons, a significant jump from 23,375 tons recorded in 2021. This represents a remarkable 111 percent growth in physical terms and an impressive 168 percent growth in monetary terms.
Russia, Germany, and Vietnam emerged as the primary importers of Turkish salmon. Export figures to Russia stood at 28,545 tons, with a total value of $211 million 13 thousand 489 dollars. This reflected a 54 percent increase in physical terms and an impressive 95 percent growth in monetary terms.
Germany and Vietnam followed, with export values reaching $41 million 997 thousand 997 dollars and $35 million 52 thousand 742 dollars, respectively.
Ahmet Hamdi Gurdogan, the Chairman of DKİB Board, stated to Anadolu Agency that Turkish salmon exports have seen consistent growth in recent years. He mentioned that the majority of the exported salmon originates from Türkiye’s Black Sea region, highlighting that current demand surpasses production capacity. Gurdogan expressed optimism about future prospects, stating, “As production increases, we intend to boost exports to more than a billion dollars per year.”
