Türkiye Successfully Operates a Hybrid Space Engine for the First Time

Baykar has announced that Türkiye has become the first country worldwide to successfully operate a hybrid propulsion system in outer space.
The FGN-TUG-S01 orbital vehicle, developed by Fergani Uzay using private funding, carried out a critical maneuver on December 6 by firing its main hybrid engine. The 35-second burn was completed exactly as planned.
Company representatives emphasized that testing a hybrid engine in space marks a significant milestone not only for Türkiye’s national space program but also for the global aerospace industry.
Following the successful engine test, the tug vehicle smoothly executed the second stage of the mission, deploying a CubeSat satellite into orbit without any technical issues.
According to Fergani Uzay, this achievement lays the technological foundation for the future “Ulugh Beg” global positioning system—an initiative that aims to provide Türkiye with the capability to launch its own satellite constellations into various orbits.
