Türkiye reduces reliance on Russian marine fuel with increased imports from Turkmenistan

Türkiye imported a record 8,787 tons of marine fuel from Turkmenistan in April 2023, according to the Turkish Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EPDK). This volume represents 0.25 percent of the total Turkish imports of petroleum products over the period, Turanews.kz reports.

The previous time Türkiye imported marine fuel from Turkmenistan was in March 2023, when it imported 10,970 tons. This means that the import of Turkmen marine fuel by Türkiye for the first four months of this year amounted to 39,953 tons.

In 2022, Türkiye imported over 15,540 tons of marine fuel from Turkmenistan, which is more than 7.5 times more than the same period in 2021 (2,060 tons).

It should be noted that in recent years, Turkmenistan has been actively developing the export of energy resources to foreign markets. The country has a large reserve of oil and gas, and it is looking to increase its exports to meet the growing demand for energy in the world.

The increased imports of marine fuel from Turkmenistan are a sign of the growing cooperation between the two countries. Türkiye is looking to diversify its energy sources, and Turkmenistan is looking to increase its exports. The two countries are working together to develop a mutually beneficial relationship.
