Türkiye Launches Its First Quantum Computer
TOBB University of Economics and Technology (TOBB ETÜ) has introduced Türkiye’s first-ever quantum computer, marking a major milestone in the country’s scientific and technological advancements.
The 5-qubit quantum computer, still in its early stages, showcases significant potential in solving complex problems faster than traditional computers. Unlike conventional systems that rely on binary bits (0 or 1), quantum computers use qubits, which can exist in multiple states simultaneously, enabling rapid and efficient processing of intricate calculations.
While traditional computers might take thousands of years to solve certain problems, quantum computers can achieve the same results in mere seconds. This innovation positions Türkiye on the global map in areas such as optimization, cryptography, molecular modeling, and artificial intelligence.
A Step Toward Real-World Applications
TOBB ETÜ emphasized that this achievement is only the beginning. The university aims to integrate quantum technologies into practical sectors such as medicine, energy, and finance. Supported by government research initiatives and international collaborations, the project reflects Türkiye’s commitment to fostering cutting-edge innovation.
University representatives highlighted plans for further advancements, including increasing the number of qubits and enhancing computational capabilities in the coming years.

“This milestone is expected to inspire other universities and research institutions in Türkiye to engage in quantum research and attract skilled experts to the field,” TOBB ETÜ officials stated.
Quantum computers have far-reaching applications in various industries. In nuclear energy, for instance, they can precisely model nuclear reactions, accelerate calculations, optimize reactor operations, and facilitate the development of new materials, improving both efficiency and safety.
