Türkiye in grip of record-breaking heatwave
Four provinces in Türkiye experienced record-breaking heat on Sunday, with temperatures reaching above 40 degrees Celsius. The provinces of Adana, Mersin, Hatay, and Osmaniye were all affected by the heatwave, Turanews.kz reports.
In Adana, the temperature reached 44.4 degrees Celsius, making it the hottest day of the year in the city. The streets and boulevards were deserted, as people sought refuge from the heat in parks and recreation areas. Those who did venture outside were careful to stay in the shade.
In Mersin, the temperature reached 40 degrees Celsius, and humidity exceeded 50 percent. The beaches and squares were deserted, and people sought relief from the heat by resting under the trees.
In Hatay, one of the provinces hardest hit by the February 6 Kahramanmarash earthquake, temperatures rose to over 43 degrees Celsius. The heat made it difficult for people to rebuild their homes and businesses.
The weather was especially hot in Osmaniye, a small town in the historical region of Cilicia. The temperature in the province reached 44 degrees Celsius, and all boulevards and streets were empty. The thermometer on Adnan Menderes Street in the city of Osmaniye showed 52 degrees Celsius.
The heatwave is expected to continue in Türkiye for the next few days. The government has urged people to stay indoors and to take precautions against heatstroke.
